Board approves special-education and technology contracts including $89,200-per-student agreement

At its May 20 meeting the Coventry Local Board of Education approved a bundle of contracts for special‑education, therapy and technology services.

Key contract items the board approved included: a Summit Educational Service Center contract for Extended School Year (ESY) and a “Kids First” transition program at $3,000 per student for two students (total $6,000) paid from fiscal‑year funds; a 200‑day contract with Kinsley School to provide education and therapy services for two Coventry residents for the 2025–26 school year (09/01/2025–08/31/2026); a contract with the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio for vision therapy billed at an estimated $125 per hour and charged only for hours used; and a contract with Total Education Solutions (07/01/2025–06/30/2026) to provide special‑education services including 1‑on‑1 aides, IEP writing and related supports. The presenter cited the Total Education Solutions contract cost per student as $89,200 and said it would be paid from the general fund with threshold reimbursement adjustments.

The board also approved renewing a purchase service contract with Northeast Ohio Network (NeoNet) for educational technology support for fiscal year 2026 at an annual cost of $186,795, which the presenter noted is an increase of $6,247.50 over FY25.

Board members asked clarifying questions about price changes and the driver for the NeoNet increase (the presenter explained the increase covered salaries for two technology staff). The contracts were moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
