Board approves trips, personnel actions, contracts and grant application
Summary
At its March 26 meeting the Chagrin Falls board approved several overnight trips, accepted resignations and retirements, approved personnel contracts and supplemental payments, designated legal counsel, and authorized a county grant application for a commercial dishwasher and reusable trays.
The Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Board of Education approved a slate of routine but consequential items at its March 26 meeting, including overnight student trips, personnel actions, vendor contracts and a county grant application for kitchen equipment.
Key approvals included:
- Overnight trip for Sugar Falls Middle School to Washington, D.C., scheduled for Nov. 5–7, 2025 (agenda item 5.01). The motion was moved and seconded and passed on roll call; board members listed on that roll call responded "yes."
- Overnight trips for the high school football team to Mount Union University (item 5.02) and the high school volleyball team to Miami University (item 5.03); both motions were seconded and approved by roll call.
- Acceptance of several certified staff resignations for purpose of retirement (item 5.04); the superintendent described long service for multiple employees and the board approved the resignations by roll call.
- Approval of certified substitute teachers for the 2024–25 school year (item 5.05); certified staff supplemental payments (item 5.06); unpaid leaves under Ohio Revised Code 3319.13 (item 5.07); classified staff resignations and contracts contingent on meeting requirements (items 5.08–5.09); and additional classified hours (item 5.10). Each motion was seconded and approved via roll call.
- Resolution 25-011 approving termination of employment for a classified employee on probationary status (item 5.11) was approved following standard procedures; the superintendent explained the probationary hiring process and the board voted to approve the resolution.
- The board designated Retzel and Andress (or successors/assigns) as as-needed legal counsel for calendar year 2025 (item 5.15) and approved contracts including a South Russell Park pavilion rental for a preschool picnic (item 5.16), a House of Blues prom contract (item 5.17), and a community-ed contract with Jumpstart Sport through Aug. 1, 2025 (item 5.19).
- Under treasurer recommendations, the board approved a Cuyahoga County special project grant application to purchase a commercial dishwasher and reusable trays and utensils (item 6.02). The superintendent and treasurer noted the grant would reduce reliance on Styrofoam trays.
All motions described on the public agenda were seconded and carried by roll call where a roll was recorded. No controversial or close votes were recorded in the public portions of the meeting.
The board then voted to enter executive session to consider employment and compensation matters under Ohio Revised Code 121.22 and adjourned following executive session.
