At its June 18 meeting the Coventry Local Schools board voted on a slate of recommendations including certified and classified personnel, multiple vendor contracts and fiscal items and then moved into executive session for personnel matters.
Personnel: The board accepted several resignations (Dylan Engel, Megan DeLorme, Tiffany Rittenauer, Leslie DeGeiger) and approved certified personnel items, supplemental and coaching contracts and a two-year administrative contract (Talia Pavlich as assistant principal, effective Aug. 1, 2025). Classified recommendations included hiring Linda Danko as a bus driver effective 06/03/2025 and extended-school-year transportation staff.
Contracts and purchases approved (presented figures): KidsLink Schools — contract for one student to attend a program at $63,000 per year (general fund); West Roofing Systems Inc. — modular classroom roof repairs at Coventry Middle School, $105,250; ALCO custodial supplies — three-year renewal $70,758.36; Gardner — cloud-based HVAC control system at Coventry High School, $45,910; Payschools online payments initial setup $6,920 with recurring subscription $3,340 per year; and an agreement with Mark Bindis at $24,000 annually as a 1099. The board also approved renewal agreements with AT&T for district phone services and adopted staggered start times and student handbooks for 2025–26.
Vehicles and purchasing: The board approved participating in a cooperative purchasing bid and acknowledged intent to purchase two replacement school buses through Ohio Schools Council; timing targeted for July.
Votes and process: Recommendations were moved and seconded and approved by voice/roll call with trustees present voting in the affirmative; several trustees noted meeting attachments were not visible in the portal and asked staff to forward missing files. After the votes the board approved a motion to enter executive session to discuss personnel items; the chair stated no action would be taken in executive session.
What board members said: Trustees and staff emphasized staffing constraints (notably bus-driver shortages) and the value of replacing obsolete HVAC control components. The superintendent said the district had limits on visible attachments in the portal and promised to forward missing documents to trustees.
Next steps: Staff will circulate any missing exhibits and the superintendent said the board would handle personnel-sensitive follow-up in executive session as needed.
