The Carlisle Local School Board received details Feb. 24 on a bond-refunding process the treasurer said will close March 6 and is expected to generate roughly $1 million in interest savings for local taxpayers.
"We're looking at savings of a a little over 1000000 dollars, in interest," the chair said while summarizing the treasurer’s report, adding that the savings benefit taxpayers who pay the millage rather than the district's operating budget.
Board members were told the bonds being refunded were originally sold in 2017; the chair said several documents require signatures as part of the March 6 closing. No final closing documents were presented at the meeting and the figures were described as preliminary.
The discussion occurred alongside routine financial reports that also noted transportation costs caused by failing buses and the emergency purchase of vehicles. The chair said two used buses were purchased at about $12,000 each and both were under 100,000 miles.
No further financial action was taken beyond placing the refunding on the schedule for closing and approving routine appropriation and financial items during the consent agenda. The board did not provide more detailed repayment schedules or the exact terms of the refunding during the meeting.
