Staff presented personnel recommendations grouped under certified and classified personnel and asked the board to accept retirements and approve new hires and supplemental coaching contracts for 2025–26.
Under certified personnel, the board heard a recommendation to hire after-school tutors and test-prep staff for Coventry Elementary (paid through Title IV), accepted the retirement resignation of Mrs. Brown in the elementary school and approved supplemental coaching contracts for the baseball staff and others for the 2025–26 year. The board also approved a long-term substitute assignment for Miss Sousa covering Mrs. Tucker’s vacancy at an indicated per-day rate.
Under classified personnel, staff recommended approval of substitute lists and acceptance of a resignation effective Feb. 13, 2026, for Mrs. Shaw (7-hour classroom attendant at Coventry High School) and recommended new classified hires for attendant and bus-assistant roles. The board moved and approved these personnel items by roll call.
Earlier in the meeting, the board received the "spotlight" presentation from the high school (Mrs. Norris, speaker 5). The presentation highlighted student-run community service projects (a canned food drive donated to Lockwood Food Pantry), National Honor Society activities, success in math competitions, choir performances in the community, esports state qualification, plans to pilot new elective courses (including an AI class), and efforts to credential staff for dual-credit instruction with regional institutions.
Quotes and context: "We are in process right now working with both Kent Stark and the University of Akron...having our staff members apply...so they could be adjunct status," Mrs. Norris said, describing dual-credit plans.
The board thanked presenters and acknowledged community partners such as the Summit County Retired Teachers Association for classroom donations.
Next steps: Personnel approvals will be processed per board motion; staff will continue developing dual-credit course proposals and credentialing plans for next year.
