"We would like to present 2 calendars to the staff, 1 starting the last 3 days of the fair and 1 starting after the fair," she said, noting survey participation was limited (about 91 respondents) and that staff preferences should guide the decision.
Board members raised practical concerns: younger elementary students may better transition with a Wednesday–Friday start, while some parents and community members prefer ending the school year closer to Memorial Day. Multiple members urged more community and staff engagement before a final adoption. One member summarized: "I would feel much more comfortable if it was socialized longer and we go, yeah. It's good." The board did not adopt a single calendar at the meeting; instead members asked administration to gather additional input and present options that reflect staff feedback.
The discussion covered contract constraints (calendar committee membership limited to certified staff in parts of the contract) and the practical difference between the calendars — roughly a three-day shift in start/end dates — and stressed minimizing disruption for students and families.
