Chair moves to enter executive session to discuss personnel, property and negotiations

The Chair opened the meeting, led the pledge and called roll before asking for a motion to adopt the agenda. A member moved and another seconded the motion to adopt the agenda.

After briefly checking for public participation, the Chair asked for a motion to enter executive session “for the purpose of considering the employment, promotion, or compensation of a public employee, also, to consider purchase of property for public purposes, and ... to prepare for negotiations or bargaining sessions.” A member moved and another seconded to enter executive session.

Board members then confirmed their votes by roll call. When the Chair called each name, Missus Butler, Missus Donahue, Miss Kiplinger and Missus Leskiewicz each answered in the affirmative, and the Chair announced the board would enter executive session to discuss the stated personnel, real-estate and bargaining matters.

At least one member asked whether the discussion should occur before entering the closed session, saying they had expected the item to be discussed in public first; the Chair replied that there are two ways to proceed — begin some discussion in public with limits on what can be said, or first convene in executive session — and said the board would go into executive session and address public discussion later when appropriate.

The board took no further public action on the substantive items during the open meeting; the motion to enter executive session was approved by roll call. The meeting record shows no public comments were received prior to the executive session.
