Bexley board approves routine agenda, first read of cell-phone policy and two personnel compensation resolutions

Earlier in the meeting the board approved the minutes of the July meeting and the meeting agenda; grouped consent items (4c–4g and 4i–4k) were approved by voice vote. The board also approved the first read of a revised cell-phone policy (policy JFCK) and the superintendent proposed making the revised policy effective on the first day of school (August 14) with a second read to follow in September.
After a majority vote to enter executive session to consider employment and compensation matters, the board returned and read two resolutions: one stating that the board determined Superintendent Doctor Jason Fine had met evaluation standards and directing an increase to the superintendent’s base salary by $7,875, with authorization for appropriate contract amendment; and a second directing payment to Treasurer Kyle Smith in accordance with his contract and evaluation. Both resolutions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote with the board indicating all in favor.
Why it matters: the personnel resolutions implement compensation changes consistent with contracts and board evaluation outcomes, and the effective-date decision for the cell-phone policy would change student-device rules at the start of the school year pending the second read. The vote outcomes were verbal (aye) and no individual roll-call tallies were read aloud in the public minutes.
Procedural note: motions approving minutes, the agenda and grouped consent items passed by voice vote earlier in the meeting; the two executive-session resolutions were also approved by voice vote on return from executive session.
