The Alexander Board of Education opened its November meeting by recognizing students who earned perfect scores on Ohio State tests and by celebrating fall athletic achievements.
Miranda Smith, introduced at the meeting as the district’s new curriculum director, read the names of students who received perfect test scores across several grades and subjects and invited them forward for certificates and a group photograph. "To get a perfect score, you are amazing," Smith said, urging the room to applaud the students’ effort.
Athletic director Nick Perez delivered a season-by-season recap, highlighting conference and district honors: boys golf produced two all-TDC juniors; girls golf finished second in the TDC with two all-TDC selections; cross-country had regional qualifiers and successful junior-high results; boys and girls soccer collected multiple all-conference and all-district honors and the girls set a season scoring record (77 goals scored, 18 goals against). Perez noted individual standouts and several coaches recognized as district or regional coach of the year.
The board also recognized staff and community members who have served in the armed forces. A district official announced the Alexander Hall of Fame banquet for Dec. 6 and said five inductees will be honored; tickets are $25. The official added that the district has raised roughly $900,000 toward a new playground and asked for community help to close the remaining fundraising gap (the speaker’s remark about the exact remaining amount was unclear in the record).
