Superintendent proposes mission, outlines MTSS/Panorama absenteeism work and bond rationale

Superintendent Soren Wong updated the Tri Valley board on district recognition, curriculum and operations and proposed a mission, vision and set of beliefs for board adoption at the August 28 meeting.
Wong read a congratulatory letter recognizing Tara Burke for outstanding service to agricultural education and summarized the successful community Bear Bash that served more than 500 people. She introduced a proposed mission and vision and a BEAR beliefs acronym (B: Believe in every child; E: Empower through collaboration; A: Always reflect and grow; R: Rely on data, not limits) and asked the board to consider adoption at the August 28 meeting so the language can be reflected in handbooks.
On student supports, Wong and administrators described expanded MTSS work and the rollout of the Panorama Student Success Platform. The district’s plan is to use data from SchoolTool and Panorama to identify tier‑3 chronically absent students, include extracurricular participation in student profiles and assign staff to targeted interventions. Wong said a districtwide MTSS team of about 19 members will continue to work on interventions and that a fuller data presentation will follow once the state releases final results.
On finance, district business staff reviewed a 2021 bond for $4.5 million that matures in 2036; the business office said expected interest and current earnings make early redemption fiscally unwise at present. The superintendent thanked business and facilities staff for work cleaning up systems and maximizing investment returns.
Next steps: board will consider adopting the mission/vision/beliefs at the August 28 meeting and will receive the promised MTSS/Panorama data presentation after state releases.
