Suffern board offers farewell remarks to departing members, schedules July 2 reorganization

The Suffern Central School District Board of Education used its June 17 meeting to publicly thank several departing members and to preview a July 2 reorganization meeting.
Board members delivered extended remarks recognizing long service and leadership. Several speakers praised Matt Kern for nine years on the board, including multiple terms as president; Mr. Shapiro said he had known Kern for decades and described Kern’s leadership as marked by “integrity” and “compassion.” Board members also acknowledged Lee Weber’s years of service as assistant superintendent of instruction and singled out administrative staff — including district clerk Heather — for their behind-the-scenes work.
Outgoing board members and colleagues described the meeting as bittersweet. In remarks that summarized his time on the board, one departing member thanked the community and colleagues for the opportunity to serve and called the experience “very rewarding,” while others presented small gifts and cards.
On procedural business the board approved the minutes of the June 3 meeting and a consent agenda covering items 2.01–2.22 by voice vote; the presiding officer called for ayes and no opposition or abstentions were recorded on the audio. The Chair closed public participation and asked for a motion to adjourn; the motion was seconded and the board adjourned. The Chair announced the next meeting will be the July 2 reorganization session.
