Marcus Fasilla, identified to the board as the district’s director of facilities, told the Southampton Union Free School District board that renovation of the new district office is on schedule and nearly ready for staff occupancy.
Fasilla said the district submitted the project to the State Education Department in November 2023 and received approval in September 2024; demolition began Oct. 21, 2024, contractors mobilized quickly after award, and the fire inspection is scheduled for Feb. 12. "The building is scheduled to be occupied by staff by February of 02/18/2025," he said.
The project converts roughly 12,000 square feet into offices, conference rooms and support spaces and, Fasilla said, complies with New York State Department of Education standards. He listed eight trade contractors working on the job — general contracting, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, data cabling, security, site work and door/access control — and praised coordination among the teams.
Fasilla described some cost‑saving finish choices (an epoxy coating over existing multi‑stall bathroom tile) and said the data closet work included over 500 Cat‑6 cables run and labeled by NCD to simplify switch installation. He also reported a brief vendor delay installing the fire alarm but said installation was nearly complete.
Moving logistics begin mid‑February: smart boards and wall‑mounted shelving removal is scheduled for Feb. 13; computers will be unplugged the afternoon of Feb. 14 and movers will operate Feb. 14–17. Information‑technology staff are scheduled to plug in phones, printers and computers on Tuesday, Feb. 18, when staff will begin occupying the space.
Board members thanked Fasilla and discussed scheduling a board walkthrough before Feb. 13 to view finishes and the completed build‑out. The presentation closed with the director noting staff and contractor efforts that kept the project on track.
