A board member told the board the district will hold a special open work session on January 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the intermediate school cafeteria to review survey results and solicit public input after a recent capital project was not supported by voters. “January 21 at 06:30, we will have a special work session, open public session, just for the purposes of talking about the capital project,” the board member said.
The board member said the district mailed a one‑page survey to everyone who voted for or against the project. As of the report to the board, the district had received roughly 70 survey responses out of about 250 ballots; among the roughly 40 returned surveys from respondents who said they voted no, 36 listed field improvements as a reason for voting no. The board member characterized those counts as preliminary and said more analysis would be shared at the January 21 session.
Board discussion also covered the budget timeline that leads to the annual vote on May 19 and proposed scheduling four budget work sessions in March (starting the week of March 2 with a staffing review the week of March 9). The board member said staff will present the building condition survey (an architect review completed every five years) and the financial basics at the January meeting to explain why particular project components were chosen.
A postcard being mailed to every household in the district will include a QR code that directs residents to a short questionnaire to collect further feedback. The board member said the goal of the work session is to explain the finances and project rationale, review survey feedback and open the floor to community discussion about next steps.
No formal decision to resubmit a capital project to voters was made at the meeting; the board scheduled the January 21 public work session to gather information and public comment ahead of any next step.
