An elementary school staff member presented the district’s elementary math data and described how assessments are scored and used to guide instruction. The presenter said UPK through sixth grade use Eureka Math Squared and that formative assessments (daily exit tickets) and module checks are embedded throughout instruction.
The presenter said first‑grade Module 1 focuses on counting, comparison and addition and reported that the small first‑grade cohort had about 40% highly proficient and 45% proficient on that module. She described second grade’s split module structure and said third grade introduces multiplication and division; third grade was identified as the district’s largest cohort at about 84 students.
When asked how the system determines proficiency bands, the presenter explained teacher‑scored assessments in first and second grade use a scoring guide that assigns varying point values and allows partial credit; the final raw score is converted to a 0–4 scale and translated to proficiency levels. "For third grade and above, it does score it automatically for them," the presenter said, adding she could share a slide with the formula used to translate points into the proficiency bands.
Staff emphasized use of daily exit tickets to identify learning needs and said teachers use small‑group instruction during "win time" to reteach skills. The district uses monthly Tier 1 meetings and periodic Tier 2/3 meetings to review data. The presenter said the district has a math intervention teacher and a dedicated elementary TA for math who, together with coach Cathy McCarthy, support intervention and coaching cycles.
The board was told the district recently ran a Tier 1 teacher survey to guide professional development and that Megan Johnson and Dr. Russell will present additional grades’ data at upcoming meetings. No changes to curriculum adoptions or new budget allocations were announced at the meeting.
