Facilities director updates board on safety-plan tweaks, new safety coordinator introduced

Ernesto Rossini, the district's facilities director, told the board on Aug. 26 that two modest additions were made to the districtwide safety plan to align with new legal requirements. One annex documents the district's cardiac emergency response protocols under the DASHA law; another, to take effect in 2026-27, clarifies transportation and bus-safety procedures and expectations for coordination among building leaders and the transportation coordinator.
Rossini said the district has placed defibrillators throughout its campuses and that devices are mapped: "All the staff will get a map where they all are," he said, adding that appropriate signage is in place and coaches receive briefings. Rossini introduced Kurt Anderson as the new safety coordinator; Anderson described his background as a retired NYPD officer and substitute teacher and said he is "glad to be part of the team."
The board asked whether devices are visible when students are on fields and Rossini confirmed they are strategically located, clearly marked and coordinated with athletic staff. No vote was required for the informational update.
