"One of the focal points of the work that we were doing this year... is focusing on mental health, well‑being... because when you take a look at safety and security, you have to take a look at the social emotional learning program," the superintendent said.
The superintendent credited consultant Dr. Costas Kostavakis with leading the district’s threat‑assessment team training and said Seaford is "one of 13 school districts" in Nassau County implementing that team. "It's a very, very tough topic," the superintendent said, adding that the training helps prepare staff for worst‑case scenarios.
Dr. Jacob and other administrators were also credited with coordinating professional development; the meeting did not include a vote on safety policy but described training efforts and an established threat‑assessment team as ongoing district practice.
