Board approves administrative leaves, retroactive pay and labor agreements

The Rome City School District Board of Education on March 24 approved several personnel and labor items brought forward by the superintendent and administration.

Dawn (S8) presented and the board approved two separate resolutions placing one probationary instructional employee on paid administrative leave retroactive to March 12, 2025 and one permanent non‑instructional employee on paid administrative leave retroactive to February 24, 2025. In both items the superintendent was authorized to return the employee to active duty at her discretion.

The board also approved a resolution awarding retroactive longevity pay to Melissa Swistek in the amount of $7,479.33 for the period Jan. 1, 2020–June 30, 2024 and adjusted her base salary to $44,190.78 effective July 1, 2024. The board authorized Melissa Swistek, identified in the record as the senior office specialist at Gansbor Elementary, to perform additional clerical duties on a per‑diem basis at $74.69 per day until a registrar is regularly assigned; the superintendent or designee will arrange processing of payment.

Finally, the board accepted memoranda of agreement between the district and the Rome Administrators Association and between the district and the Rome Teachers Association, and approved the first reading of multiple policies and regulations (academic intervention services, school admissions including nonresident and homeless student provisions, and student health services and related regulations).

The motions passed by voice vote during the meeting; resolutions took effect immediately where stated.
