A staff member for the Pleasantville Union Free School District announced an annual rapid dismissal drill to be held on the eve of Thanksgiving, Wednesday, Nov. 26, to test the district’s ability to clear campus quickly and safely.
The speaker said the drill is designed to move about 1,600 students and “several 100 employees” out of buildings and off campus in a fast but orderly way. The specific dismissal time for all buildings is 1:30 p.m.; families were asked to plan their pickups accordingly.
District officials described the exercise as a safety preparedness measure and a way to practice procedures so students can begin the holiday with their families. No formal policy change or vote was announced.
