North Babylon board adopts forensic audit and investigation findings, authorizes referrals to authorities

The North Babylon Union Free School District Board of Education on Tuesday unanimously approved three added resolutions adopting the findings of a forensic audit and an independent investigation and authorized district counsel to share the reports with outside authorities for potential further action.

Board Chair Mr. Luchetti read the first resolution stating, “Be it resolved, the Board of Education adopts the findings of the forensic audit by R.S. Abrams and therefore authorizes legal counsel to share the contents of the report with authorities, for further action.” The motions were moved and seconded and carried after a roll call in which Ms. Barnett recorded an abstention and one member was absent.

When a resident asked what the term “authorities” meant, a board representative said the reports could be referred to outside entities such as law enforcement and that the documents would also be available through a Freedom of Information Law request, “subject to redactions, of course,” handled through the district clerk, the board said.

In the same meeting the board approved a stipulation of settlement and general release between the district and the parents of a student listed in confidential Schedule A and ratified a stipulation of settlement with the North Babylon Psychologists Association. The board also ratified a side-letter agreement with the North Babylon Administrative Association, authorizing the superintendent to execute the settlements.

The board did not release the full reports at the meeting; officials said the reports would be accessible under FOIL procedures with any necessary redactions and that the legal referrals will be made as authorized by the resolutions.
