Jill Collins presented a proposed student trip to Italy that has drawn strong interest and, she said, is already full. The board chair told members that any out-of-state or international trip must receive board approval. "So, yeah, with that said, great opportunity for these guys," the chair said, and asked staff to prepare a resolution for the board to consider at the November meeting so the students can participate if approval is granted.
Collins said about 40 people from Mechanicville planned to travel in February and that the trip’s timing was chosen to limit conflicts with school sports and to keep costs down. She described possible itinerary elements including Rome, Florence and an optional Pompeii extension; she also noted that scholarships will reserve some spots for students who otherwise could not afford to go.
Board members asked procedural questions about timing and approvals but made no formal motion or vote on the trip during the meeting. The next procedural step, as the chair described, is for the board to receive a formal resolution on the proposed trip for a future meeting.
