Principal outlines literacy curriculum pilot as materials arrive

Teachers were scheduled to begin piloting the materials on Jan. 20; the principal added that most pilot materials were delivered on the day of the meeting and staff were eager to begin using them.
When asked whether the district would purchase the curriculum outright, the principal said the pilot and negotiations give the district leverage to limit purchases to only needed materials and to avoid unnecessary expense. The principal said teacher feedback, evaluations during February professional-development gatherings, and ongoing grade-level facilitator meetings will inform a decision the district hopes to reach by the May professional-development day.
The principal cautioned that the district is reviewing multiple programs rather than adopting a single solution immediately and that the yearlong review is meant to ensure materials fit district needs and the science-of-reading guidance. The district will collect teacher feedback from pilots and follow up with evaluations comparing the pilot materials to current resources.
