The Marion Central School District will remain on the Wayne County Sheriff's wait list for a school resource officer (SRO), the superintendent said, after administrators reported current availability is limited and provided updated cost estimates.
Dr. Lloyd told the board the sheriff's new SRO coordinator checked in and confirmed the district is still on a wait list; the sheriff's office does not currently have an officer available to assign. The superintendent said the coordinator provided cost figures: approximately $105,000 for a 10‑month SRO position and about $126,000 for a 12‑month SRO. The board discussed whether to pursue a 10‑ or 12‑month placement and asked the administration to invite the detective sergeant who coordinates SROs to provide an updated overview for the board.
Board members noted the SRO position includes more than law enforcement duties and asked for clarification on roles, training, and costs at a future presentation. No motion was recorded to hire an SRO; the action at the meeting was to remain on the wait list and seek further information.
