Board approves $755,000 bus bond, adopts temperature policy and clears personnel and consent items

The Marcellus Central School District Board of Education authorized the issuance of $755,000 in serial bonds to pay for transportation vehicles at its June 2 meeting and approved several administrative policies and personnel items.
Reading from the proposed resolution, the board stated the bonds would pay for transportation vehicles approved by voters on May 20, 2025. Board members responded individually in a roll call; one member, Joshua Matusik, was noted as not present. The motion carried.
The board also considered and carried a proposed board policy (listed in the packet as policy number 56 85) that implements New York State guidance on maximum room temperatures. The presenter summarized required mitigation strategies when room temperatures reach 82 degrees Fahrenheit and said rooms must be evacuated if temperatures reach 88 degrees. The administration noted existing mitigation measures, portable air conditioner purchases and identification of air-conditioned spaces (for example, the high school auditorium and selected cafeterias) to provide temporary relief. The presenter said some emergency "close days" were built into next years calendar to address extreme circumstances.
Personnel items numbered 6.1 through 6.8 were presented and approved; the administration told the board that athletic trainer coverage will move to a part-time arrangement through an outside provider (SOS) supplemented by an on-staff certificant who will assist at practices and events.
The board also approved the consent agenda items 7.1 through 7.6 and then voted to adjourn the public meeting and convene an executive session for matters relating to personnel and contract negotiations.
Votes recorded on the bus bond item included affirmative replies from Amy Bartolotta, Erica Paquada, Christine Shea, Sean Eady, Catherine Branson Dennis and Justin Pritchard; Joshua Matusik was noted absent. The board stated the motions were carried.
