Students present suggestion-box results and board approves World Language Club to support proposed Costa Rica trip

Student representatives briefed the board on March 20 about spring athletics, transportation changes, and results from a recently deployed suggestion box, and the board separately approved a World Language Club that administrators said will support an international trip plan.

Students (S6, S7 and peers) highlighted winter-team results and noted a successful boys’ basketball run, then summarized middle-school suggestion-box trends: 46 submissions focused on school start/end times, locker space, lunch length and broken bathroom locks. One student proposed placing a table in the lunchroom so students can take uneaten fruit or milk to peers who need more food; another student reported custodial checks are under way for malfunctioning stall locks.

Superintendent Bernard introduced a staff proposal for a World Language Club and teacher Mitch (S3) outlined a proposed nine-day Costa Rica trip for July 2026 that would include national-park visits, cultural exchanges and curricular language practice. Mitch said early interest included about 20 students on a waitlist and that the trip would likely combine with another small district to reach a viable group size. "With that number that would require us having 3 teacher chaperones," he said.

Board action: the board voted to establish the World Language Club (motion from Chelsea, second from Jen) and approved related new-business items; the club vote passed by voice vote.

What’s next: school staff said they will continue outreach to increase suggestion-box participation, consider small promotional prompts for students, and follow up on facility repairs mentioned by students.
