Honeoye CSD superintendent outlines $10 million capital project timeline, schedules community playground meeting

Superintendent Natalie Fluke gave a detailed update on the district’s community-approved $10,000,000 capital improvement project, saying the district is "within just a few weeks" of entering the bidding phase pending final State Education Department approvals.
Fluke told the board that phase 1 work will include playground replacement, roof replacement, covered canopies at elementary and district office entrances, work in elementary and secondary gyms, mechanical upgrades and portions of basement abatement. She said phase 2 would include the bus garage and bathroom renovations, while home-and-careers and technology renovations may be pushed to phase 3 if rising costs require rescheduling.
On community engagement, Fluke said the district will meet Monday with Play by Design, the project architects and the construction manager to develop a plan for an August community meeting where residents can help shape playground design. "Play by Design is gonna kind of facilitate the discussion of where we'd like different parts of the project to go out there on the playground," she said.
Administration said receiving bids will refine the total budget and help determine which elements move forward. Darren, a district business official who spoke during the meeting, explained that because voters approved a hard dollar amount the district must work within that sum: if work can't be completed under the approved amount it becomes a priority for the next capital project and the district must report final costs to the state at project close.
Architect Joe Kosorek and construction manager Bill Christiansen are scheduled to appear at the September 17 meeting to give a more detailed update on specific scope and phasing decisions. Fluke said the district remains "on track to break ground next summer 2026," subject to bid results and approvals.
Next steps: the district will post the two new handbooks (athletic and extracurricular) to its website, confirm the date for the community playground meeting after the Monday planning session, and expect architect/CM briefings at the September board meeting to refine phase decisions and budget impacts.
