Board elects Alex as president, installs Jody Meyer as vice president and reappoints district clerk

The Hastings-on-Hudson Union Free School District Board of Education completed its annual reorganizational business at the July 14 meeting, electing Alex as board president and approving Jody Meyer as vice president.

Board members nominated Alex and approved the motion by voice vote. After the vote the board administered the oath of office to the newly elected president. Trustees then nominated and unanimously approved Jody Meyer as vice president; Meyer recited the oath in open session.

The board also reappointed Melissa Delabarrera as district clerk and administered her oath. Trustees approved a posted consent agenda—items 2 through 50—by voice vote and adjourned the reorganizational portion to reconvene the regular meeting on a separate link.

In the regular meeting trustees approved several personnel items, including the interim appointment of Lauren Iorio to Farragut Middle School (see separate article). The board also voted to delegate limited hiring authority to the superintendent for the period through October, a procedural move trustees said helps the district fill vacancies between meetings while preserving oversight.

The meeting record shows routine motions carried by vocal 'ayes'; one roll call item later in the agenda included an abstention on the June 17 minutes from a trustee who said she had not attended that earlier meeting.

Next steps: the board will reconvene as scheduled for its August meeting and monitor hires done under the delegated authority with opportunities to revisit any decisions.
