Superintendent presented a year-end summary of the district's partnership with the Madison County mental health department. The superintendent said the district is in the third year of the partnership; last year 22 students were referred, the named staff member Elena Main currently carries a reported caseload of 54, and she conducted about 740 sessions this past year. The superintendent said Elena is leaving for South Carolina and the county is interviewing replacements; the district expects someone in place by the start of the school year.
The superintendent also reported the State Education Department presented a revised "portrait of a graduate" framework to the Board of Regents. The revisions emphasize multiple pathways to graduation, broader competencies (creative innovation, critical thinking, effective communication, global citizenship) and culturally responsive framework elements. The district will need to plan this year for required instruction in financial literacy and climate education and await forthcoming rubrics and credit-requirement details for implementation in the 26–27 school year.
Board members responded positively to the mental-health partnership update and discussed timing for replacement staffing and planning to implement the portrait revisions.
The superintendent distributed paper copies of the draft portrait materials to board members and encouraged committee and administrative planning ahead of implementation dates.
