John Hansen, preconstruction manager for Triton Construction, told the Hastings-on-Hudson Board of Education on Oct. 7 that Triton has moved the district's $38,475,500 capital bond into schematic design and is preparing cost estimates for all three propositions.
Hansen said Triton's role is to "proactively manage design, bidding, construction, and closeout phases to achieve high quality outcomes that meet the district's educational and operational goals." He described the four phases Triton will support—design, bidding, construction and closeout—and said the firm will supply cost estimates at each design stage, perform constructability reviews and recommend bid awards to the board.
The three propositions passed by voters in June 2025 consist of building condition and mechanical-system work (Prop 1), cafeteria-to-classroom conversions and an addition at the Farragut complex (Prop 2), and two new turf athletic fields at Burke Estate (Prop 3). Hansen said the team is wrapping schematic-design estimating now and expects to present monetary estimates at a board meeting in November.
Board members emphasized outreach for the athletic fields. One director said the district will convene a smaller working group of board members, two student representatives and active parents to design two community forums on Prop 3 in October or early November so residents can review proposed field plans ahead of the state submission schedule.
Hansen said Triton will host recurring Owner-Architect-Construction-Manager (OACM) meetings, provide monthly progress and financial reports to the district's business office, and support permitting and state review. The firm said it may try to phase Prop 3 through to state review early to meet a targeted summer construction window. "We are in schematic design" and "we are wrapping up our estimating by, what we expect to be the end of the month," Hansen said.
The board did not take any votes on specific design documents at the meeting. Triton and the district plan further updates at the November board meeting when budget estimates will be available.
