The board voted to accept a GSSA Memorandum of Agreement that clarifies transportation contract language to allow the district to subcontract services temporarily, approved a 30-day emergency transportation contract to maintain services while recruiting and training drivers, set a crossing guard service rate of $16.69 per hour for 2025'2026, and approved a student field trip to Lincoln Tech on Oct. 16, 2025.
Staff explained that the GSSA agreement removes certain exclusivity restrictions so the district may subcontract work to ensure timely service while preserving opportunities for in-house drivers. "This is basically them allowing us to subcontract with a private contractor to handle our needs to make sure everyone is where they need to be, in a timely fashion," Staff member said. Staff added the arrangement is intended to be temporary as the district hires and trains more drivers and expects subcontracting needs to decline over time.
Board members and staff also discussed the use of consecutive 30-day emergency contracts while training and hiring continue. Staff noted state procurement thresholds require going out to bid for longer contracts. On training, staff said the time and cost vary by candidate: re-certifying a former driver can take a week or two, while new candidates require more extensive training.
On the crossing guard contract, board discussion centered on hourly rate and cost structure; the approved service rate is $16.69 per hour. The board also approved the Lincoln Tech field trip, described by staff as a career-training visit that meets the district's proximity standard. No public comments were submitted before adjournment.
