Board members were told Sept. 23 that the Fredonia Central School District has earned the NISMA Presidential Citation, an award that recognizes districts for exemplary, across‑grade music programming and community engagement. The music department will be honored Dec. 4 in Rochester.
"The application Mr. Bennett submitted was among the best he's ever seen," a board presenter said, relaying the NISMA president's comments about the nomination and the districtprogram.
In the superintendent's report administrators also announced several staffing and operational items: the resignation of Summer Queen, who had served as the middle‑school psychologist; three aides moving from provisional to permanent status; and an approved overnight trip for the art department to Ireland and Scotland planned for 2028. The superintendent said the district has a state‑required school safety plan that is not posted in full online because it contains operational procedures; a shortened public summary will be posted on the district website as required by regulations.
Administrators also flagged a mid‑year vendor problem with the flex spending benefit and said the district intends to switch vendors in order to resolve glitches reported over the summer and start of the school year.
The board applauded staff for student engagement and for work that was cited in the NISMA award announcement. The district said it will publish the abbreviated safety‑plan summary on the website in the coming week as required.
