Fredonia board welcomes student representative Catherine Fortman

The Fredonia Central School District Board on Sept. 23 welcomed ex‑officio student board representative Catherine Fortman, who described her extracurricular involvement and pledged to gather student input.
Fortman, introduced earlier in the meeting as the districtstudent representative selected for the 2025–26 year, told the board she serves as senior class president, co‑editor of the high‑school newspaper and participates in multiple clubs and sports. She said a meaningful learning experience came from the Unified Club, which she credited with bringing students, teachers and the community together.
"I am truly grateful to be sitting here today," Fortman said. She said she plans to reach out to the student body "in person, through surveys, through some other vehicle to get input" so the board can understand student perceptions and priorities.
Administrators said the student representative position is intended to provide the student voice at the table and that a board member has volunteered to mentor the student reps. Nashwan (named in the record) was not present at this meeting but is expected to participate at future meetings.
