Summer Academy drew 66 students; district reports most maintained or grew on assessments

The district reported that Summer Academy ran from July 8 through Aug. 1 with programming for pre-K through grade 8 and drew 66 students overall. Sessions prioritized students who were teacher-recommended, had attendance concerns, or were at risk for retention; remaining slots were opened to parent and student requests.
The presenter said the program integrated ELA, math, science, social studies and social-emotional learning around an Olympics-in-Paris theme. “Week 1 was the history of the Olympics and the Olympic rings,” the presenter said, and staff described hands-on activities and guest presenters, including local athletes. The presenter reported weekly attendance averaged about 85% and that “all but 2 kids maintained or showed growth” on simple pre/post ELA and math checks used by the program.
Administrators also reported credit-recovery work for high-school students this summer: 15 students completed 23 classes to remain on track for graduation, and most are passing those classes. Staff said Regents review and credit-recovery supports continue leading into early fall testing.
