Fredonia board ratifies four‑year teachers’ contract

The Fredonia Central School District Board on Sept. 23 ratified a successor contract with the Fidelity Teachers Association, extending teacher bargaining unit terms through the 2028–29 school year.

The board approved the ratification after administrators told members they had reached tentative agreements on compensation and working conditions and that final language would be adjusted for clarity. “Weare very pleased to announce we have come to an agreement,” said the superintendent, praising the associationleadership and the districtnegotiating team as having kept “a very positive, upbeat, professional, collegial mode.”

Why it matters: a multi‑year agreement gives both the district and teachers predictability for budgeting and staffing as the district implements programs and state requirements. Administrators said the contract is intended to balance the needs of teachers and the district and that negotiators and BOCES legal counsel participated in the process.

The superintendent thanked specific participants, saying the districtrepresentation included board members and business‑office and legal staff who reviewed tentative agreements in executive session. Board members voiced appreciation for the time spent by both sides. The superintendent added the district is continuing negotiations with another employee group, the SSSA, with meetings scheduled for Oct. 7.

The board approved the ratification on a voice vote; no roll‑call tally was recorded in the meeting transcript. The district said it will finalize contract text before distributing the full agreement to staff.

Next steps: administrators said they will publish finalized contract documents and continue talks with remaining bargaining units.
