Superintendent outlines regional BOCES campus plan and updates district facilities and training efforts

The superintendent told the board that a BOCES-led capital project is being structured with a private developer who would purchase land near Exit 16, build a consolidated regional campus to house CTE and special-education programs, and lease the facility to BOCES under a 20-year agreement. Under that arrangement, the superintendent said, component districts would not run a traditional voter bond or capital vote for the facility; instead districts would pay their portion based on student-weighted ratios over the 20-year lease term.
"This project, however, is being structured differently which will actually expedite the process," the superintendent said, describing the developer-built-and-lease model and noting a target opening for students in September 2027. She told the board that preliminary finance work suggests the district's share would be "one of the lowest in the area" but that she would obtain more detailed cost projections and share them with the board.
The superintendent also described internal district work: formation of a "2 12" professional-development committee to design three remaining training days this school year, a staff survey to shape agendas and a spring evaluation of training effectiveness. She reported having conducted 14 roundtable discussions with small staff groups to gather input.
Facilities and operations staff (speaker 6) reported maintenance work completed and outstanding: replacement of two gate valves affecting locker-room plumbing, troubleshooting a kitchen steamer that is currently out of service and efforts to restart a nearly new walk-in freezer that may require compressor warranty work. He also said surveyors will be completing soil core samples in support of capital-project planning.
The superintendent and staff said planned capital-project budget lines are expected to address larger building infrastructure needs identified during maintenance reviews.
