Board approves consent agenda, accepts donations and creates head bus driver position

At its regular meeting the Fort Edward Union Free School District Board of Education approved the consent agenda — including prior meeting minutes, treasurer reports and CSE/CPSE recommendations — and accepted several charitable donations for students.
Chair (speaker 1) read a list of gifts the board acknowledged: a $500 Walmart gift card from Food for Thought / O'Brien's Angels to purchase snacks for students in need; school-supply donations from Fort Edward Pizza Hut including markers, glue sticks and notebooks; clothing donations from Saint Joseph's Church (coats and underwear); and a donated printed music sheet for the district alma mater. The board accepted those donations by voice vote.
The board also approved a resolution to create a head bus driver position, which the chair described as intended to "tremendously help Steve out and his people" in the transportation department; that resolution passed by voice vote. The board approved the independent audit corrective action plan and authorized donation or disposal of retired athletic uniforms under district policy #52-50.
On personnel, the board read multiple appointments and one unpaid administrative leave for an employee identified in the personnel section. Board members agreed to address certain personnel items in executive session; those items were tabled pending the closed-session discussion. The meeting then moved to executive session by vote.
Other personnel actions approved by the board included mentor assignments, appointment of a special-education teacher (0.9 FTE) to a four-year probationary appointment effective Dec. 2 with a stated salary, acceptance of a retirement letter effective Jan. 6, 2025, and the appointment of a JV softball coach as specified in the contract. Several of these items carried by voice vote.
