Superintendent outlines graduation, cell-phone policy options and schedules retreats
Summary
Superintendent Ms. Romero reported on a successful graduation at the new field, described a cell-phone-policy committee working toward an Aug. 1 deadline under Education Law 2803 (discussing lockers vs. Yondr pouches, with Yondr estimated at about $12,000), and listed upcoming training and retreat dates for staff and administrators.

Superintendent Ms. Romero told the board the district's graduation at the new field went well and thanked maintenance and staff for preparing the facility.
Ms. Romero said a district committee has met several times to develop a cell-phone policy to meet the August 1 deadline created by Education Law 2803. She said the group has been surveying students and parents and is weighing storage options: district-provided lockers (no equipment cost cited) versus vendor pouches ("Yondr"), which she said would cost the district about $12,000. "So we are looking at that, and we'll continue, but I'll have a draft of our policy for the next meeting so we can get into the language of it," she said.
The superintendent also noted the district did not administer two new Regents versions (Earth Science and Biology) that had testing errors and said, "Our kids were not impacted by it." She introduced Mallory Conklin, who is slated to join the district as an aide next year, and listed calendar items: a Board retreat on July 22 (6 p.m.), a county administrative retreat on Aug. 18 hosted by BOCES, threat-evaluation training starting Aug. 19, faculty training on Aug. 7 and Aug. 8, and first student day on Aug. 20.
Why it matters: The cell-phone-policy decision will affect students and classroom routines and must align with the state law timeline. A draft policy is expected before the board's next meeting for review and possible adoption.
