Superintendent highlights seals of achievement, summer boost sign-ups and AI pilot

During his report to the board, Superintendent de Tomaso summarized academic achievements and district programs.
He said teachers are using end-of-year I-Ready data to target instruction and that 33 seniors earned the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness this year. The superintendent reported 24 East Rockaway High School seniors achieved the New York State Seal of Biliteracy; he noted one senior earned the seal in both Spanish and Chinese. De Tomaso said class projects led by students showcased civic action work.
On summer programming, de Tomaso reported that as of Thursday, June 5, 73 students had registered for the district's summer boost program and that the board approved hiring eight staff members to teach the program. "We're excited about having our own staff teach the programs throughout the summer," he said.
De Tomaso also described an initiative to introduce a tool called Magic School to support teachers, saying the vendor claims it is "loved by over 5,000,000 teachers" and can save "up to 10 hours per week"; he said the district is in an early phase of teacher training for the product.
The report included a number of curriculum partnerships and extracurricular highlights that the superintendent said will inform instruction next year.
