The Fayetteville City Board of Education voted on a series of fiscal, policy and operational items at its September meeting, approving a finance committee recommendation to have the system absorb a projected 5.6% increase in health‑insurance premiums for 2025 and authorizing the use of remaining ESSER funds for a one‑time employee bonus.
During the finance update the committee said the state projects a 5.6% rise in health‑insurance premiums. A motion to have the system absorb that increase passed after board discussion; the chair reported the tally as 4–1, and two board members had announced they would abstain from the vote.
The meeting packet also included a small remaining allocation of ESSER funds the state offered with a September obligation deadline. The administration proposed and the board approved using the funds for one‑time staff bonuses, saying the state had authorized that use.
On policy, the board received and approved first readings of a bundle of policies on issues ranging from visitor procedures (policy 1.501) and class‑size ratios (4.201) to reporting child abuse (6.409), emergency preparedness (3.202), opioid antagonist use (6.4052) and the district code of conduct. Each policy was moved, seconded and approved on first reading as listed in the meeting materials.
Superintendent Mr. Jones secured board approval for personnel and operational items including tenure approvals for two teachers (names presented for approval), final personnel assignments for system‑owned vehicles (Jeff Bryant, Zach Sibley and Richard Wright), an overnight FFA trip to the national convention in Indianapolis, and retroactive ratification of a multiyear lease for a field‑painting robot used by the football program.
The board also approved a resolution establishing Sept. 12 as Bus Driver Appreciation Day in Fayetteville City Schools and set the next regular board meeting for Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. (finance at 4 p.m.).
Where votes lacked member‑level roll calls in the transcript, the board recorded tallies or recorded the motion as adopted following the standard motion‑second‑aye/no process. The meeting included few public comments; no members of the public had registered to speak in advance.
