Director reports progress on Harold McCormick, new athletic center and enrollment

Director Van Huss told the Elizabethton school board the Harold McCormick remodel is nearly finished, the Dave Ryder athletic center will be roughed in by winter, CDAC building work and ballistic film installations are progressing, and preliminary enrollment looks up compared with last year.
Director Van Huss provided the board with a comprehensive update on capital projects and other operational matters.
Van Huss said Harold McCormick is "the one that's probably the closest to being finished" with remaining work on fire alarms, the PA system and one last classroom. He said work on the Dave Ryder Center for Athletic Performance has resumed after a concert closure; crews are installing underground utilities and preparing footers and a concrete slab, and the metal building kit is expected in late September or early October with a goal to be roughed in by Christmas.
Van Huss said the community development and engagement center (the CDAC building, formerly the Union Pharmacy) is under renovation and that new sign panels should be installed soon. He reported the ballistic window film project is nearly complete and interior door locks and card readers are roughly 75' 80 percent finished systemwide.
On enrollment, Van Huss said final numbers are still being reconciled but that preliminary counts indicate enrollment will be up compared with the same time last year; he said the district will provide updated figures in September.
The board thanked staff and community partners for support of back-to-school events and other programs.
