Fayetteville City Schools board holds organizational meeting, approves resignation and recognition resolution

The Fayetteville City Schools board conducted its annual organizational business Thursday, electing officers, approving a personnel resignation and adopting a resolution recognizing food service staff.

During the opening, the chair opened nominations for officer positions. Mark Clark was nominated and approved as chairman, and Van Morrison was nominated and approved as vice chairman during voice votes. New board member Kayla Cam was introduced and sworn in earlier in the meeting; Vice Mayor Jeff Bradford was also introduced as the board’s ex officio representative from the mayor and aldermen.

Superintendent Jones brought forward the resignation of tenured teacher Nicole Painter and asked the board to accept it; the board approved the resignation by voice vote.

Board members also considered and approved a resolution honoring the district’s food service workers and designating January 9 as Food Service Appreciation Day in Fayetteville City Schools. The chair said the district appreciates the role food service staff play in supporting students and praised a recent Thanksgiving lunch service at Askins Elementary for serving more than 500 people across two days.

The chair proposed committee assignments for new members (policy, facilities and transportation, finance) and the board authorized staff to move forward with committee work and planning for the next year’s calendar and a January board photo. The board set its next regular meeting for 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025.

No public commenters were signed up for this meeting and the board adjourned after routine items.
