Board OKs small meal-price increases to shore up lunch fund

The Wall School District Board approved modest increases to school meal prices for the 2024–25 school year to stabilize the district’s lunch fund.
Business manager/administrator (speaker 2) told the board the lunch fund balance had dropped by about $4,500 and that federal National School Lunch Program reporting requires certain price increases to avoid a future surcharge: she recommended raising all student meal prices by $0.20 and nonstudent prices by $0.25. She laid out the proposed new prices: K–12 breakfast $2.30; K–5 lunch $3.30; 6–12 lunch $3.55; adult lunch $5.25; extra milk to remain $0.75.
A board member who moved the motion argued the increase was modest and necessary to maintain program sustainability. The board voted to approve the increases by voice vote.
Administration said the increases will be applied for the 2024–25 year and that staff will continue to monitor the lunch fund. The board noted the district is not in immediate fiscal trouble but must be proactive to avoid a deficit.
