Lucy Moon, a senior at Wall School District 51-5, presented a student recap of a five-day trip to Washington, D.C., that combined sightseeing with meetings designed to teach students about government and agriculture policy.
Moon described visits to monuments and museums, a stop at Arlington National Cemetery and sessions with the American Farm Bureau Federation. She said she and the group met embassy staff and congressional staffers and had conversations on trade and the pending farm bill. Moon noted an internship offer she received for the coming summer and thanked the board for allowing time away from class to participate in the trip.
Board members praised the presentation and asked which speakers the student met; Moon named U.S. senators and representatives and credited Farm Bureau leaders for organizing the program. The board congratulated her on the internship offer and on representing the district.
