Webster principal Craig Case to retire after 25 years; board accepts

Principal Craig Case announced he will retire at the end of the year after 25 years with the district, and the Webster Area School Board voted to accept his retirement at its Feb. 3 meeting.

The announcement came during the superintendent’s reports. The board chair thanked Case for a “phenomenal” tenure and noted Case’s deep community ties, saying he has been visible at athletic events, on the playground and in other community activities. Case told the board he and his wife “really love it at Webster,” that they do not plan to move and that he expects to remain active locally. “Am I gonna stop working? No. It’s just turn the page type of thing,” he said.

Board members praised Case’s decades of service to students. A motion to accept the retirement was made and, according to the transcript, identified as moved by Mark and seconded by Joel; the motion carried by voice vote. The board said it will need to plan for a replacement and acknowledged that “huge shoes” will need to be filled.

Case told the board he plans to stay in the community and pursue other work locally, including occasional bus driving. The board closed the public portion of the meeting after the vote and moved on to other agenda items.

Next steps: the board accepted the retirement and did not set a hiring timeline at the meeting; the board indicated it will handle next steps as a personnel matter and subsequently moved into executive session on personnel and administrative evaluations.
