Elma board hears enrollment gain, fields grant progress, student advisory launch and FFA recognition

S2 said district enrollment was up in October by about 23 full-time equivalent students, concentrated primarily among 11th- and 12th-grade cohorts at the high school. "We are up in the month of October by about, 23 FTE," S2 said.
On facilities and grants, S3 said the district placed fourth in a community recreation grant competition. S3 summarized the funding rounds: the first group awarded projects at about $1.9 million and a possible second pot of roughly $2 million could be available if the legislature approves additional funding in March. The district’s submission was for an addition of 15 playing fields with lights behind the transportation building; S3 credited partnerships with local youth soccer and said detailed project numbers and drone footage helped the application.
S2 reported the district has launched a student advisory group as part of a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation initiative focused on building student voice. Three student representatives will travel and report back; the next advisory meeting was set for Nov. 18 and the district plans to bring student reports to future board meetings.
Board members also highlighted extracurricular achievements: S6 reported boys' golf unofficial district placements (team third; Robbie Allen fifth; Brody Palmer tenth), and board members said Christie Kershaw will receive national recognition from FFA. The district discussed posting a press release and social media video about the FFA recognition, and noted a quarterly donation report covering gifts under $5,000 had been provided earlier in the meeting.
The board then moved into an executive session to discuss bargaining for 30 minutes with no action to be taken, and later extended the session by 10 minutes before adjourning.
