WASDA names Elma board small school board of the year

Heather Kroll, director of leadership development for WASDA, told the Elma School District board on Oct. 8 that the district earned both a board of distinction honor and the association’s small school board of the year award.
"Elma was not only determined to be a board of distinction this year, but you earned the small school board of the year distinction," Kroll said, adding that WASDA will create a short video about the district’s work and asked the board not to issue a news release before the announcement at the annual conference.
The recognition will be presented at WASDA’s annual conference, where the district will be honored at the president’s dinner and again during the general session. Kroll said a videographer will produce a brief clip about the district’s work that WASDA will share at the conference.
Board members reacted with surprise and congratulations and said they would send representatives to the conference. Kroll offered follow-up information by email for any questions and reiterated the association’s request to hold public announcements until after WASDA’s presentation.
The district will determine local publicity timing after the conference announcement; Kroll asked the board to coordinate with WASDA before public release.
