District outlines capital needs and levy timeline ahead of February vote

The Dieringer School District board received an update from the levy planning committee on district facility needs and a tentative schedule for a voter measure next February.
Executive Director of Business Services Laura Marco summarized committee work: a building-condition assessment by McKinstry identified hundreds of district assets and a first six-year list of projects needing upgrade or replacement. Marco said the proposed capital package would focus on safety and proactive major maintenance — items such as kitchen equipment replacement, playground surfacing, roofing and upgraded windows and doors. "We are wanting to get our buildings to a point where we can be more proactive rather than reactive with a lot of our major maintenance and upgrades," Marco said.
The committee reviewed potential levy revenue from different levy types (EP&O, capital levy and technology levy), compared tax-rate impacts with neighboring districts and toured North Tapps to view identified pain points. Marco said the committee’s next step is finalizing a funding proposal this November; if the board approves that plan, the district will file with the county and begin an informational campaign with the committee ahead of the February election.
Board members heard that some projects are not visible to families (for example, furnace hoods and other infrastructure) and that technology items funded by prior levies are expected to continue under a technology levy. No vote was taken on a measure at this meeting; the board will consider a final levy package in November.
