Superintendent Dr. Mitchell told the school board March 4 that after-school sports and activities scheduled for the next day would be canceled because of a forecast of potentially "extremely high winds" around 60 miles per hour.
"We will be canceling after school sports and activities tomorrow due to the potential for extremely high winds," Dr. Mitchell said, adding that the decision is meant to prevent putting students on buses during hazardous conditions. She clarified that school would still be held the next day, but extracurriculars would be paused for safety.
The announcement was made as part of the superintendent's brief remarks at the end of the budget presentation and precedes routine board matters. The district said parents should have already received an email and text message with the notice.
District officials did not indicate additional closures beyond after-school activities; any further changes would be communicated to families through the district's usual channels.
