Coles District rep stresses teacher voice, Vision 2030 and student wins in brief remarks

Lisa Zargarpur, the Coles District Representative on the Prince William County School Board, used brief remarks to outline her priorities for the coming year and to highlight recent district and student accomplishments. Zargarpur said one of her main priorities at the board table is ensuring teacher voices are heard and included in district initiatives. She cited Dr. McDade's strategic plan, Vision 2030, as an effort into which she works to bring educator input and to shape future programming and policy.
She described a busy year balancing board responsibilities with classroom work: "Alongside my board work, I've continued teaching, mentoring new teachers, and working on my own doctorate." Zargarpur also noted professional development and policy work she observed at the Virginia School Boards Association conference, where she learned about potential AI regulations and a new statewide school evaluation system.
The representative highlighted concrete accomplishments in the Coles District: Yorkshire and Signal Hill elementary schools have begun band programs, six district schools were recognized as Virginia Naturally Schools, and Coles Elementary received that recognition for 12 consecutive years. She pointed to individual student successes as further evidence of the district's strengths, citing a Colgan High School graduate who won a national gold medal in playwriting at the NAACP ACT-SO competition and two Osborne Park High graduates who earned Amazon Future Engineer Scholarships.
Zargarpur closed by thanking residents for the opportunity to serve and stating she looks forward to continuing the work of representing the Coles District on the school board.
