School Board approves special education annual spending plan, 7–0

The Newport News School Board unanimously approved the district's special education annual spending plan during its April 24 meeting.
Superintendent Michelle Mitchell told the board the special education department had carefully reviewed funding needs and recommended adoption of the spending plan. "I am in full support of the spending plan that has been presented," she said.
A board member moved to approve the plan, a second was given, and the matter was passed on a roll call vote recorded as 7–0. No substantive amendments were offered during the discussion at the meeting; the board chair closed the matter and the plan was approved as presented.
The superintendent said the plan followed a review of student needs and the department's determination of required resources; further implementation and monitoring will be part of division operations and reporting.
