Board signs off on 2025 federal grant applications; state will act on Title I for now

Presenters identified as Miss Steele and Mr. Pecanville reviewed the district's 2025 federal grant applications on level funding. The proposed uses include funding reading specialists and math specialists (Title I), EL and migratory student supports (Title I-C and Title III), stipends, professional development (Title II-A), technology and enrichment (Title IV-A), and rural low-income set-aside uses including sign-on bonuses (Title V-B).
"These are based on level funding," Miss Steele said, describing programmatic uses such as reading specialists, paraprofessionals and family engagement activities. Ms. Rice cautioned the board that while applications for multiple federal programs were being submitted, the Virginia Department of Education will only provide state-level approval for the Title I application at this time because U.S. Department of Education award notifications have not been received.
Daniel Wallace moved to approve the 2025 federal applications as presented; Rebecca Meyer seconded and the board approved the motion by voice vote. Administrators said they will complete and submit the remaining applications and await federal award notices before the state will act on them.
